Covid-19 update from St Luke Hospital, July 11 2020

Dear Friends,

From March 16th to July 8th   St Luke Hospital treatment Center of Acute Respiratory infections has welcomed 962  patients, 95% of whom had Covid symptoms.

Of these 606 needed hospitalized care, and 356 could be cared for at home.

Among the 606 Hospitalized care, 154 have unfortunately died.

93 of these deaths are non-institutional (the were dead on arrival, died in the parking lot, or died shortly after arrival).

The overall mortality rate is 16%,

The mortality rate just for in hospitalized patients is 25%,

If we remove the 93 people that came to us too late for help, the institutional death rate is 6% for all patients, and 11% for hospitalized patients.

Among death casualties:  98 people (64%) were associated with co-morbidities (diabetes in 1st place, hypertension in 2nd place, followed by various illness of the heart or lungs).

56 people (36% of the deaths) died with no comorbidity associated.

Here are the statistics for the subset of patients who were lucky enough to be tested and were confirmed Covid positive:

536 patients have been confirmed Covid 19 positive, (67% male and 33% female)

and among, them 42 died (8%) with 29 being males ( 69%) and 13 being females (31%)

Gender distribution among overall hospitalized patients showed 61% were male and 39% were female.

We continue to offer the Prayers for the Dead, for those who have died.

Now, a word about the others:

737 were able to return home after an average of 2 weeks on oxygen and other therapies at St Luke hospital.

24 transferred for better care (using meaning they were heading toward mechanical ventilation which we do not offer)

47 left the hospital without medical authorization (usually for traditional treatments)

and about 40 patients are currently under our care (keep them In your prayers!)

We have decreased from 95% occupancy of our 100 beds, to 40% occupancy. We hope this good news continues.

We are most grateful for your prayers and support!
