St Luke School Children Received School Supplies Despite the Delay in School Opening
/After bread, education is the first need of man, said Georges Charles Danton; aware of the importance of education, St. Luke Foundation always directs its actions towards education. St.Luke has already built more than 35 schools all over the country and offers academic instruction to more than 13,000 children every year.
This academic year has been marked by much political turmoil, which made it impossible to start the school year. One of the biggest consequences of the political turmoil was the fuel shortage which had paralyzed the public transport for three months. Some schools have tried to work online but the internet issues and lack of electricity made it extremely difficult.
Haiti’s security situation scared the parents who resist sending their kids to schools for fear that they will be victims of the illegal armed groups.
Nevertheless, Haitians parents strongly believe in education, it’s the most precious thing they can offer to their children in their lifetime, and they take much pride their immaculate school uniforms. They finally started sending their children back to school in plain clothes on Monday, November 28, 2022, despite all the possible risks.
Not all parents can send their kids back to school because of their low economics means; according to UNICEF 2 out 10 children, from ages 6 to 10 years old do not go to school every year. At St. Luke we always make sure that we provide our students with all the items they need to attend school and participate.
Thursday, November 17, 2022, the St. Luke Outreach program distributed school supplies to 200 kids at Pele Simon in Cite Soleil including a backpack with pen, pencils, notebooks and a geometry box.
The Outreach program wishes to bring these items to more kids in Cité Soleil whose parents do not have enough economics means to purchase school supplies. We need to purchase more backpacks, pen, pencils and notebooks; with your help and prayers the students of Cite Soleil can count on us to get the necessary school supplies to go back to school.
