Raphael Louigene,A Hero has fallen
/It is with a broken heart that we announce the passing of our beloved Raphaël Louigene on Sunday July 16th, 2023.
As we mourn this tremendous leader, we extend our condolences and sympathies to Raphaël's Family, as Raphaël was a father, a son, and brother, and friend to all the St Luke and NPH families.
Raphaël was truly the definition of the St Luke philosophy. He embodied compassion and empathy: always caring for his neighbor in all circumstances. A valuable collaborator, Raphaël was in the center of every St Luke initiative whether social, medical, educational, or advisory - leading by example.
To honor Raphaël's life, we would like to share the following testimonials of some of his immediate collaborators:

My dearest friend Rapho. You left before us, far too soon, and you remind us that here on earth, our life is little. I am very happy to have shared with you a part of your life. You who had the art of cultivating friendship and good humor at work, you made all these moments joyful and unique. For me I can't believe you have left us. I'm still in shock and I feel so empty without you. You were a best friend, a confidant brother, You were always there for me, listening to me, advising me, making me laugh sometimes. Even in difficult times, you were one of the most important people in the St. Luke's Foundation and I am so grateful to have had the chance to know you. for more than 21 years I remember all the good times we had together. The laughter we had, the challenges we overcame, the dreams we shared together for our darling Haiti. Especially For your homeland You were always there for us and even when I was at my lowest, you helped me up. You were so strong, so brave and you were so wise and you taught me.

Life is so unfair. Raphaël was more than a Brother. We've known each other for the past 25 years, and I never saw such a truthful St Luke Collaborator and human being.
I'm broken and only find hope in the fact that Raphaël gave his life for St Luke and died in St Luke arms, surrounded by an extraordinary solidarity between national and international friends that his life has contributed to bond together. Raphaël was selfless as he didn't personally know the vast majority of people that he has helped and touched by his actions . Fondation St Luke has lost more than 50% of it's strength and Father Rick , his legs. So many Times, in the darkest moments of my life, I looked up to Raphaël and he always delivers.
Haiti has lost a valuable son
Raphaël will be forever missed as he is irreplaceable.

During my time working on the ground in Haiti, I met such great people whose Rapho is a remarkable one. His philosophy was that every human being should be treated with dignity,justice and equity without consideration of their color, social status, and education, specially for those from the slums who always feel rejected.
Rapho didn't’t see only the job he did in St Luke as a professional environment but also as a family environment. He visited me where I lived and invited me also to come where he lived. He was available for everyone specially in the hard times. We shared wonderful time even though we argued many times. Our arguments helped us to better understand our personalities.
Rapho always broke either administrative, medical, or educational protocols when it comes to the best of the human beings particularly for those in the slums. His humanity is tremendous and inspiring.
Through Rapho and some other colleagues in the Foundation, I’ve lived every day Christ’s teachings regarding to the protocols breaking for the best of the human being. His loyalty to his cause, to his colleagues, to his friends and to those in the slums were without comparison. I lost a colleague, a friend and a brother.

Raphael Louigene.Rapho, as his name suggests, was a provider of help, assistance and service to all; even to the point of risking his life for others. Faced with such a loss, words are difficult if not almost impossible to find. An unimaginable, unacceptable but very real event has happened in our lives. Rapho is gone for eternity. The one who was for me a true friend and a faithful collaborator especially during these last 5 years is no more. Death, without warning, snatched him away from his family and his friends. He who so well embodied the empathy, friendliness, living together and compassion advocated by the St Luc Foundation. I know death exists, but I don't want to believe or accept that you left so quickly. Rapho, you were a man with a big heart, and we didn't have the time to say goodbye. You were our original example of how to live in service to others.
We are very happy to have shared a part of our life with you, and your heart full of friendship and had good humor. I saw you leave us, Rapho, on July 16, 2023 around 3 a.m. and I still don't want to believe it and I keep repeating one sentence: Rapho has died, Rapho has died. We feel empty because we see you in everything and we have all lost. Martin Gray said death is part of life, not a punishment. To honor those who have died, is not to shut oneself up in pain. We must continue to pursue our path. As they would have done themselves, as we would have done with them, now we do for them. To be faithful to those who died is to live as they would have lived: Charitable, Helpful, Kind, Benevolent, Pleasant. Man with a big heart, we will never forget you Rapho. Louigène Raphael was that man, one of kind, the manisfestation of the Saint-Luc Fondation
philosophy , the personification of Compassion. He was behond an ordinary man by his sense of Self-sacrifice. He was the hope for less fortunate of the cite soleil population, this community lost a helping hand and a peace officer.
Building schools and medical center was the cornerstone of his mission. He was the bit of hope for his community. Not only Saint-Luke Fondation mourns the depature of this hero, but also the Haitian community.
Louigène Raphaèl has been serving the Haitian community via Saint-Luke Fondation since 2004 and he was one of the founding members of the institution. Then his unwavering compassion became his signature look. For his colleagues he was a great collaborator.

Since 2010, I started working with Rapho in the 1st ring of cholera. I always take my hat off to him for his courage, determination, sensitive heart and mostly his wisdom. For me, Rapho was a unique person in everything he did. He had a word for everyone who came before him. He was an incomparable person.

C'est avec le cœur brisé que nous annonçons le décès de notre bien-aimé Raphaël Louigene le dimanche 16 juillet 2023.
Alors que nous pleurons ce formidable Leader, nous adressons nos condoléances et notre sympathie à la famille de Raphaël, car Raphaël était un père, un fils et un frère, ainsi qu'à toute la famille St Luke et NPH.
Raphaël était vraiment la définition de la philosophie de saint Luc. Il incarnait la compassion et l'empathie en prenant toujours soin de son prochain en toutes circonstances. Un collaborateur précieux Raphaël a été au centre de toutes les initiatives de St Luc, qu'elles soient sociales, médicales ou éducatives, de conseil, d'exemplarité.
Pour honorer la vie de Raphaël, nous partageons ici les premiers témoignages de quelques-uns de ses collaborateurs immédiats :
Jean Nebez Augustin, Directeur Général de la Fondation St Luc :
Mon très cher ami Rapho. Tu es parti avant nous, bien trop tôt, et tu nous rappelles qu'ici sur terre, notre vie est petite. Je suis très heureux d'avoir partagé avec vous une partie de ta vie. Toi qui as eu l'art de cultiver l'amitié et la bonne humeur au travail, tu as rendu tous ces moments joyeux et uniques. Pour moi, je ne peux pas croire que tu nous as quittés. Je suis encore sous le choc et je me sens si vide sans toi. Tu étais un meilleur ami, un frère confident, Tu étais toujours là pour moi, m'écoutant, me conseillant, me faisant parfois rire. Même dans les moments difficiles, tu étais l'une des personnes les plus importantes de la Fondation Saint-Luc et je suis très reconnaissante d'avoir eu la chance de te connaître. Depuis plus de 21 ans je me souviens de tous les bons moments passés ensemble. Les rires que nous avons eus, les défis que nous avons surmontés, les rêves que nous avons partagés ensemble pour notre chère Haïti. Surtout pour ta patrie Tu as toujours été là pour nous et même quand j'étais au plus bas, tu m'as aidé à me relever. Tu étais si fort, si courageux et tu étais si sage et tu m'as appris.

La vie est tellement injuste. Raphaël était plus qu'un Frère. Nous nous connaissons depuis 25 ans et je n'ai jamais vu un collaborateur et un être humain aussi véridique de St Luke.
Je suis brisé et ne trouve d'espoir que dans le fait que Raphaël a donné sa vie pour St Luc et est mort dans les bras de St Luc, entouré d'une extraordinaire solidarité entre amis nationaux et internationaux que sa vie a contribué à lier. Raphaël était désintéressé car il ne connaissait pas personnellement la grande majorité des personnes qu'il a aidées et touchées par ses actions. La Fondation St Luke a perdu plus de 50% de ses forces et le Père Rick, ses jambes. Tant de fois, dans les moments les plus sombres de ma vie, j'ai admiré Raphaël et il livre toujours.
Haïti a perdu un fils précieux
Raphaël nous manquera à jamais car il est irremplaçable.

Pendant mon temps de travail sur le terrain en Haïti, j'ai rencontré des gens formidables dont Rapho est remarquable. Sa philosophie était que chaque être humain devrait être traité avec dignité, justice et équité sans considération de sa couleur, de son statut social et de son éducation, en particulier pour ceux des bidonvilles qui se sentent toujours rejetés.
Rapho ne voyait pas seulement le travail qu'il faisait à St Luke comme un environnement professionnel mais aussi comme un environnement familial. Il m'a rendu visite là où j'habitais et m'a invité aussi à venir là où il habitait. Il était disponible pour tout le monde spécialement dans les moments difficiles. Nous avons partagé de merveilleux moments même si nous nous sommes disputés à plusieurs reprises. Nos arguments nous ont aidés à mieux comprendre nos personnalités.
Rapho a toujours enfreint les protocoles administratifs, médicaux ou éducatifs en ce qui concerne le meilleur des êtres humains, en particulier pour ceux des bidonvilles. Son humanité est immense et inspirante.
Grâce à Rapho et à d'autres collègues de la Fondation, j'ai vécu chaque jour les enseignements du Christ concernant les protocoles qui se brisent pour le meilleur de l'être humain. Sa fidélité à sa cause, à ses collègues, à ses amis et à ceux des bidonvilles était sans comparaison. J'ai perdu un collègue, un ami et un frère.

C'est avec une douleur infinie que j'ai appris la triste nouvelle de la mort d'un grand homme, Raphaël Louigène.
Rapho, comme son nom l'indique, était un pourvoyeur d'aide, d'assistance et de service à tous ; même au point de risquer sa vie pour les autres. MODÈLE ORIGINAL SERVANT D'IDÉAL, Nous sommes très heureux d'avoir partagé une partie de notre vie, tu avais le cœur de cultiver l'amitié et la bonne humeur. Je t'ai vu partir RAPHO le 16 Juillet 2023 vers les 3 heures environ, jusqu'à présent je ne veux pas croire et je ne cesse de répéter qu'une seule phrase " kèt mesye RAPHO mouri ,...kèt mesye RAPHO mouri....... Nous voici aujourd'hui au bord du vide puisque nous cherchons partout le visage que nous avons perdu....La mort est une considération non un châtiment pour répéter Martin Gray" Être fidèle à ceux qui sont morts ce n'est pas s'enfermer dans la douleur. Il faut continuer de creuser son sillon, droit et profond. Comme ils l'auraient fait eux-mêmes, comme on l'aurait fait avec eux, pour eux. : Face à une telle perte, les mots sont difficiles voire quasiment impossibles à trouver, un événement inimaginable, inacceptable mais bien réel est arrivé dans nos vies, Rapho est parti pour l’éternité.
Celui qui a été pour moi un vrai ami et un fidèle collaborateur surtout durant ces 5 dernières années n’est plus, la mort sans crier gare l’a ravi à sa famille et à ses amis.
Toi qui a si bien incarné l’empathie, la convivialité, le vivre ensemble et la compassion que prône la Fondation St Luc,
Ton départ prématuré est une perte énorme pour tout le pays et en particulier pour la Fondation.
Repose en paix Rapho, que Dieu t’accueille dans sa maison après cette courte vie mais bien remplie que tu as eu. Tu as achevé ton travail sur cette terre, maintenant il est temps pour toi de te reposer mon ami, va en paix!

Je peine à trouver les mots justes, aucun d'eux ne sera à la hauteur de cet instant, le départ tragique de Rapho. Une personne incroyable, toujours prêt à aider les autres.
Rapho fut un véritable collaborateur pour moi et pour beaucoup d'entre nous et je suis reconnaissant d'avoir eu l'occasion de travailler avec lui.
C'est une grosse perte pour la Fondation St Luc et pour la communauté haïtienne en générale.

Certains hommes sont nés pour vivre éternellement grâce à ses bonnes actions envers le monde. Certains hommes sont nés pour être la lumière des autres dans l'obscurité Certains hommes sont la preuve qu'avec un cœur plein de compassion, on peut apaiser la rage des plus féroces d'animaux. Louigène Raphael était cet homme, unique en son genre, l’incarnation de la philosophie de la Fondation Saint-Luc , la personnification de la Compassion. Il était au-delà d'un homme ordinaire par son sens de L'abnégation. Il était l'espoir des moins fortunés de la population Haïtienne, spécialement celle de cité soleil.

Il n'y avait qu'un seul Rapho et il était unique.
Tout ce que je sais, c'est que Saint-Luc ne trouvera jamais une deuxième personne comme Rapho, qui a vraiment tout donné pour la Fondation sans ne jamais rien attendre de personne.

Depuis 2010, j'ai commencé à travailler avec Rapho dans la première vague du choléra. Je lui tire toujours mon chapeau pour son courage, sa détermination, sa sensibilité et surtout sa sagesse. Pour moi, Rapho était une personne unique dans tout ce qu'il faisait. Il avait un mot pour tous ceux qui l'ont précédé. C'était une personne incomparable.
